API & MCP — connected agents and API keys
In shortSettings → API & MCP has three parts. Connect a coding agent gives you the setup for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others. Connected agents lists every agent you allowed and lets you disconnect it. API keys makes a key for agents, scripts and CI that cannot sign in with a browser — the key is shown once, acts as you on every project, and can be revoked at any time.
If you build with an AI coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, you can connect it to MonstarX and have it push apps here with one sentence. SettingsAPI & MCP (under Developers) is where you control that access: which agents are signed in as you, and which API keys exist.
This page covers the settings. For connecting an agent step by step and what it can do once connected, see Connect Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
What is on the API & MCP page?
Section titled “What is on the API & MCP page?”| Part | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Connect a coding agent | MonstarX’s MCP address (https://monstarx.com/mcp, with Copy URL) and the setup for each agent, ready to copy. See Coding agents. |
| Connected agents | Every agent you allowed with a browser sign-in, with a Disconnect button. |
| API keys | Keys for agents, scripts and CI that cannot sign in with a browser. |
Documentation at the top of the page opens MonstarX’s full developer guide.
Which agents are connected?
Section titled “Which agents are connected?”Connected agents lists every agent you allowed with a browser sign-in (you signed in to MonstarX and pressed Allow), when it was connected and when it was last used.
Click Disconnect next to an agent to sign it out at once. It can ask to connect again later. Resetting your MonstarX password also signs out every agent that used a browser sign-in.
Do I need an API key?
Section titled “Do I need an API key?”Usually not. Most agents — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, the Claude app and ChatGPT — sign in through your browser and need no key. A key is for tools that take one instead: Windsurf, Gemini CLI, scripts and CI.
How do I make an API key?
Section titled “How do I make an API key?”-
Open SettingsAPI & MCP and scroll to API keys.
-
Under New key, type where it will be used, like “Laptop Codex”.
-
Click Make key.
-
Copy the key now. MonstarX keeps only a fingerprint of it and cannot show it again.
Each key is listed with its name, when it was made and when it was last used. You can have up to 20 keys.
How do I use a key with my agent?
Section titled “How do I use a key with my agent?”In Connect a coding agent, pick your agent and switch from Browser sign-in to API key. The setup then includes the key, sent as an Authorization: Bearer header. Keys start with bck_: replace bck_your_key with yours.
How do I revoke an API key?
Section titled “How do I revoke an API key?”Click Revoke next to the key and confirm. Agents using it stop working at once. Make a new key for any agent that still needs one.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Do I need an API key to use MonstarX?
No. Building in MonstarX needs no key, and most coding agents sign in with the browser. A key is only for agents, scripts and CI that cannot, such as Windsurf or Gemini CLI.
I lost my API key. Can I see it again?
No — MonstarX keeps only a fingerprint of it. Revoke the old key and make a new one.
What is the MonstarX MCP address?
https://monstarx.com/mcp. Copy it from Settings → API & MCP → Copy URL.
How many API keys can I have?
Up to 20 per account. Revoke keys you no longer use.
Does work my agent asks MonstarX to do use my plan?
Yes, when your agent asks MonstarX to build something. Pushing, importing, downloading, reading and publishing do not. See Usage and limits.
