Clip — show MonstarX part of the page
In shortClick Clip in the preview toolbar, then drag a box around anything on the page or click an element. A picture of exactly what you see — scrolled, with menus open and fields filled in — goes into the prompt box as Clip 1, labelled with its page. Add several, write your message and send it in any mode.
Some things are easier to show than to describe: a button that looks wrong, a gap in a layout, an error message in a form. Clip lets you capture exactly that part of your running app and drop it into your message — so “fix this” is all you need to type.
How do I clip part of the page?
Section titled “How do I clip part of the page?”-
In the Preview tab, get the page into the state you want to show — scroll to it, open the menu, fill in the form.
-
Click Clip in the preview toolbar (the scissors). A bar at the bottom of the preview says Drag a box around anything, or click an element.
-
Drag a box around what you want to show — or click a single element. As you hover, the element a click would take is outlined.
-
The picture goes into your message (the bar says Added to your message) and the cursor moves to the prompt box. Clip stays on, so you can clip more.
-
Type your message, pick a mode and send. Click Done or press Esc to leave Clip.
Each clip shows in the prompt box as Clip 1, Clip 2 and so on, with the page it came from. Click the × on a clip to remove it.
What does a clip capture?
Section titled “What does a clip capture?”A picture of exactly what is on screen in that box: the page as you scrolled it, with menus open, text typed into fields and sticky headers where they sit. Password fields are hidden in the picture.
Along with the picture, MonstarX receives:
- the page’s address and title,
- the preview size you were looking at (desktop, tablet or phone),
- where on the page the box was and how far you had scrolled,
- the elements inside the box and the files that most likely hold them.
So a clip tells MonstarX both what it looks like and where it is in the code.
Which mode should I send a clip in?
Section titled “Which mode should I send a clip in?”Any of them — a clip is just part of your message:
- Build: “Make these two buttons the same height.” MonstarX changes the app.
- Chat: “Why is this total wrong?” MonstarX looks into it without changing anything. See Build, Plan and Chat.
- Plan: “I want a section like this on the teachers page.” MonstarX asks a few questions first.
If you send clips without typing anything, the message reads See the clip from /pricing.
How many clips can I add?
Section titled “How many clips can I add?”A message carries up to 10 files, clips and attachments together. When it is full, Clip says A message carries up to 10 files. Send it, or remove one, to clip more.
A queued request that you take back into the prompt box to edit brings its clips back with it.
Clip or Edit mode?
Section titled “Clip or Edit mode?”| Clip | Edit mode | |
|---|---|---|
| What you send | Pictures in an ordinary message | A list of changes, one note per marked spot |
| Modes | Build, Plan or Chat | Build |
| Best for | Showing a problem, asking about something, “make it look like this” | Several precise changes to specific elements |
Only one of the two can be on at a time.

Can MonstarX see the picture?
Models that can read images see the picture itself. For a model that cannot, MonstarX still sends the page, the area and the elements inside it as text, so it knows what you pointed at.
Can people I shared the project with use Clip?
