Use Gemini with MonstarX
In shortCreate a key in Google AI Studio and paste it into the Gemini row in Backend → Cloud. MonstarX's builder can then list the Gemini models your key can use and ask one of them for text, on your Google account. The key is for the builder only — your app never gets it.
Ask Google’s Gemini models with your own key.

Gemini is Google’s family of AI models. Connect your own Gemini API key (a password-like code that lets software use your Google AI account) and MonstarX’s builder — the AI you chat with — can ask a Gemini model for text while it works on your project: a draft from a model you like, a second opinion, or a comparison with another model.
This is a business tool: the builder uses the key for you, and the answers come back into your chat. The app you build never gets this key. If you want your app to have AI features, see Add AI features to your app or connect OpenAI or OpenRouter for the app.
What can MonstarX do with it?
Section titled “What can MonstarX do with it?”| What MonstarX can do | When |
|---|---|
| List the models your key can use, with their exact model names | Any mode |
| Ask one model a question — a single text prompt of up to 30,000 characters — and read its answer | Any mode, when you ask for it |
What it never does: put the key into your app’s code, send pictures or files, keep a conversation going over several messages, or change anything in your Google account.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- A Google account that can use Google AI Studio.
- Google has a free tier with lower limits, and paid use billed through the Google Cloud project behind your key. See Google’s Gemini API pricing.
- You own the MonstarX project. Only the owner can connect or disconnect a tool.
Get your key
Section titled “Get your key”-
Open the API keys page in Google AI Studio and sign in.
-
Create a key (Google asks which Google Cloud project it belongs to) and copy it.
-
If Google offers it, keep the key restricted to the Gemini API only, so it cannot be used for other Google services.
Google’s own guide: Using Gemini API keys.
Connect it in MonstarX
Section titled “Connect it in MonstarX”-
Open your project and click Backend in the top bar, then Cloud.
-
Scroll to Connectors, find Gemini and click Connect.
-
Paste the key into the API key field and click Connect.
-
MonstarX checks the key by listing your models. When it works, the row says Connected. If Google refuses the key, you see Google’s error and nothing is saved.
Ask MonstarX to use it
Section titled “Ask MonstarX to use it”| You type | What happens |
|---|---|
| “Which Gemini models can my key use?” | MonstarX lists the models and their names. |
| “Ask Gemini Flash to write a friendly 404 page message, and use it on the not-found page.” | It sends the prompt with your key and, in Build mode, puts the text into your app. |
| “Ask Gemini to rewrite our About text for a younger audience and show me the result.” | It shows Gemini’s version in the chat for you to compare. |
Security and privacy
Section titled “Security and privacy”- Stays with MonstarX. The key is stored encrypted on MonstarX’s servers. It is never written into your app’s code or given to your app.
- One project. The key works only in the project where you connected it.
- Your prompts go to Google. What MonstarX sends is processed by Google under your account’s terms, which differ between the free and paid tiers.
- Disconnect any time. Click Disconnect beside Gemini in BackendCloud and confirm Disconnect Gemini from this project?. MonstarX forgets the key. To stop it working everywhere, delete it in Google AI Studio too.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Costs and limits are Google’s. Each answer counts against your key’s free-tier limits or is billed to its Cloud project. Listing models does not generate anything.
- The builder’s own work is separate. MonstarX keeps building your app with its own AI; your key is used only when it asks Gemini something on your behalf.
- Text in, text out: no pictures, files or tools.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Can my app use this key to call Gemini?
No. The key is for MonstarX's builder only. For AI in your app, use the built-in AI (see Add AI features to your app) or connect OpenRouter, which also offers Gemini models.
Does connecting Gemini make MonstarX build with Gemini?
No. MonstarX keeps building with its own models. Your key is used only when the builder asks Gemini something for you.
Will MonstarX run up a bill on my key?
It asks Gemini only for a specific request of yours, one prompt at a time. Watch usage and set budgets in Google AI Studio or Google Cloud.
