Transfer a project to another account

In shortIn Settings → Transfer, enter the new owner's email (they need a MonstarX account already), type the project's name to confirm and click Transfer this project. Everything moves — code, chat, versions, database, secrets, the live app and its domains — and future usage counts against their plan. The GitHub link is dropped. Only the new owner can hand it back.

Built an app for a client, or moving a project to your company’s account? Transfer hands the whole project to another MonstarX account, for good. From then on it is theirs: only they can build on it, publish it or delete it. The published app keeps running throughout — visitors notice nothing.

  • The new owner must already have a MonstarX account with the email address you will enter. Ask them to sign up first (a free account is enough).
  • Only the project’s owner can transfer it. People you shared it with — even editors — cannot.
  1. Open the project, click Settings in the workspace header and choose Transfer.

  2. Read what moves and what does not (listed below).

  3. In New owner’s email, type their address.

  4. Leave Keep view-only access for me ticked if you still want to follow the project (see below), or clear it.

  5. Under Type … to confirm, type the project’s name.

  6. Click Transfer this project.

The window then says Handed over and who owns the project now, with a button Back to my projects. Both of you get an email explaining what happened and what moved.

  • Everything in the project: its code, chat, versions, feature plan, database, files, secrets and connectors.
  • The published app, on every address it answers on — it keeps running.
  • Domains bought for the app, with their renewals and reminders, so nobody pays for a domain they no longer use.
  • Usage: building, testing and publishing the project now count against their plan, not yours.
  • The GitHub link. It is dropped, so nothing is ever pushed to your GitHub account on their behalf. Your repository and its history are untouched; the new owner can connect their own. See GitHub.
  • With Keep view-only access for me ticked, you stay on as a viewer: you can still open the preview, read the code and follow the chat, and the project shows on your Projects page marked Shared. The new owner can remove you at any time, and you can leave it yourself.
  • With it cleared, you no longer have access to the project.

If the new owner was already someone you had shared the project with, they are simply the owner now.

Does the published app go offline during a transfer?

No. It keeps running on every address, including domains bought for it.

What if the new owner has no MonstarX account?

The transfer is refused. Ask them to create an account with that email address first, then try again.

Can I transfer back?

Only the new owner can — from the same Transfer page. MonstarX cannot undo it.

Who pays for the project after the transfer?

The new owner. Its builds, QA runs, publishes and domain renewals count against their plan and account.

Can I just give someone access instead?

Yes — share the project with Can edit and you stay the owner. See Share a project.
