Add AI features to your app
In shortEvery MonstarX app can use AI with no key of its own — to write and summarise text, fill in forms, chat, make images, read text aloud, turn speech into text and search the web with sources. Describe the AI feature and MonstarX builds it. Each app may make 300 AI requests and 30 images a day, and its AI counts toward your plan's usage. Every call is listed under Backend → AI.
MonstarX uses AI to build your app — and your app can use AI too, for the people who use it. A recipe site that writes a description from the ingredients, a support page that answers questions, a journal that turns a voice note into text: these are AI features, and every MonstarX app can have them without an AI account or an API key.
What can AI do inside my app?
Section titled “What can AI do inside my app?”| Kind | What it does | Ideas |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Writes, rewrites, summarises, translates, classifies and answers. It can also read pictures you give it. | Product descriptions, email drafts, a summary of a long review, “is this message urgent?” |
| Structured answers | Fills in fields your app can use straight away, in the exact shape it needs. | Tags and a category for a new post, a shopping list from a recipe, details pulled from a pasted invoice |
| Chat that streams | Replies word by word as they are written, like a chat assistant. | A help bot, a coach, a tutor |
| Images | Makes a picture from a description. It is stored with your app’s files. | A cover image for each blog post, an avatar, a party invitation |
| Speech | Reads text aloud as an MP3, in English and other languages. | A “listen” button on articles, spoken answers |
| Transcription | Turns a recording or an audio file into text. | Voice notes, meeting recordings, speaking practice |
| Web search | Looks things up on the live web and answers with the sources it used. | “What’s on this weekend near me?”, up-to-date prices or news |
MonstarX chooses the AI models and switches to a backup model by itself if one is having trouble, so your feature keeps working.
How do I add an AI feature?
Section titled “How do I add an AI feature?”Describe what the AI should do, when it runs and where the answer goes:
On the new-recipe form, add a Suggest with AI button. It reads the title and ingredients and fills in a short description and 3–5 tags. The cook can edit them before posting.
More prompts that work well:
- “Add a chat assistant on the Help page that answers questions about our opening hours, menu and delivery area, in a friendly tone.”
- “After someone uploads a receipt photo, read the shop name, date and total from it and fill in the expense form.”
- “Add a Make a cover image button to each blog post that draws a picture from the post’s title.”
- “Add a microphone button to the journal: people record a note, and it is turned into text they can edit before saving.”
- “Add a Listen button to each article that reads it aloud.”
- “On the Explore page, add a box where people ask about local events this weekend; answer from a web search and list the sources as links.”
For voice features, people allow the microphone in their browser. Recordings can be up to 10 MB, and text read aloud up to 4,000 characters at a time. A spoken back-and-forth — listen, think, answer aloud — uses about three requests.
How much AI can my app use?
Section titled “How much AI can my app use?”| Limit, per app | Amount |
|---|---|
| AI requests per day (text, structured answers, chat, web search, speech and transcription together) | 300 |
| Images per day | 30 |
A “day” is the last 24 hours. These limits protect you: one busy app cannot use up your whole plan in a day.
Your app’s AI also counts toward your plan’s usage, the same as your own building does. When your plan’s usage window is full, your app’s AI pauses until it resets; the people using your app see a short message asking them to try again later — never your plan details. See Usage and limits.
Where do I see my app’s AI usage?
Section titled “Where do I see my app’s AI usage?”Open BackendAI. The top line shows today’s requests and images out of the daily limits. Below, every AI call is listed with When it happened, its Kind (text, image, search, speech or transcription), its Tokens (how much text went in and came out) and its Status (OK or Failed).
Can my app search the web?
Section titled “Can my app search the web?”Yes. Web Search is its own service in MonstarX Cloud. It answers from live web results and gives the pages it used, so your app can show them as sources. It shares the daily request limit. You can switch it off on its own under BackendCloud.
Can I use my own AI account?
Section titled “Can I use my own AI account?”Yes. If you would rather pay for AI yourself or use a particular model:
-
Open BackendCloud and connect OpenAI or OpenRouter under Connectors with your own key.
-
Ask MonstarX to use it: “use my OpenAI key for the recipe suggestions”.
-
When nothing in the app uses MonstarX AI any more, you can switch AI off in the MonstarX Cloud list.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Do I need an OpenAI or other AI key?
No. MonstarX holds the keys and chooses the models. Connect your own OpenAI or OpenRouter key only if you want to.
What happens when my app reaches the daily limit?
Further AI requests are refused until the 24-hour window moves on. The rest of your app keeps working. Build the AI behind a button so it only runs when people ask.
Does my app's AI use my credits?
Yes. It counts toward your plan's usage like your own building. Premium models are never used for your app's AI.
Can I choose which AI model my app uses?
MonstarX picks a fast, capable model with a backup. For a specific model, connect OpenRouter or OpenAI with your own key.
Can the AI read pictures?
Yes. Text requests can include pictures, so your app can describe a photo or read the details on a receipt.
Can the AI hold a live phone call?
No. Voice features work turn by turn: record, turn it into text, answer, and read the answer aloud. There is no continuous listening or phone calling.
