Build on your phone

In shortMonstarX works in your phone's browser. Describe the app on Projects, tap Build it and put the phone away — the build runs on MonstarX without the tab. Turn on notifications to hear when it is done, has questions or stopped. On a phone the project shows one view at a time (Chat, Preview, Code…) and everything else is under More (•••). On an iPhone, add MonstarX to your Home Screen to get notifications.

Had an idea on the train? You can build it there. MonstarX works in your phone’s browser, with a layout made for one hand. Describe the app, tap Build it, and put the phone in your pocket: the build runs on MonstarX, not on your phone, and a notification tells you when it is done.

There is nothing to install. On an iPhone you can add MonstarX to your Home Screen, where it opens full screen like an app.

  1. Open monstarx.com in your phone’s browser and sign in. You land on Projects.

  2. Tap the box and describe your app. On a phone, Enter starts a new line — the keyboard has no Shift key — so tap Build it when you are ready.

  3. Tap Build it. The project opens on its Chat view, and the build is already running.

  4. Close the tab, switch apps or lock the phone. The build carries on.

On a phone: the request is sent, MonstarX starts planning, and a card says you can close this.

Can I really close the tab while it builds?

Section titled “Can I really close the tab while it builds?”

Yes. Every request runs on MonstarX’s servers, not in your browser — including the very first one, which starts the moment you tap Build it. While MonstarX works, a card above the prompt box says You can close this — MonstarX keeps working. and offers Notify me.

When you come back, the project shows where it got to: the build still going, or the finished app. Requests you queued start by themselves one after another, even with the tab closed.

How do I get a notification when it is done?

Section titled “How do I get a notification when it is done?”

Tap Notify me on that card, and allow notifications when your browser asks. From then on this device is told when a request on any of your projects ends. You can also turn notifications on, test them and remove devices in Settings → Notifications. See Notifications.

How do I get notifications on an iPhone or iPad?

Section titled “How do I get notifications on an iPhone or iPad?”

On iPhone and iPad, websites can only send notifications once they are added to the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 or later). It takes two taps:

  1. Open monstarx.com in Safari and sign in.

  2. Tap Share in Safari’s toolbar, then Add to Home Screen, then Add.

  3. Open MonstarX from its new icon on your Home Screen. It opens full screen, like an app, and you stay signed in.

  4. Go to Settings → Notifications (or tap Notify me during a build) and turn notifications on.

On screens narrower than a laptop — phones either way up, and tablets held upright — the workspace shows one view at a time instead of the chat and the preview side by side.

From the top:

  • The header: ‹ back to all projects, the project’s name (tap it to rename), and under it what MonstarX is doing right now — such as Building…, Planning…, Answering…, Waiting for your answers, Queue stopped — or else how the preview is: Preview ready, Starting the preview…, Preview asleep. Then the purple X (Ask Luna), Publish, and ••• for More.
  • The views: Chat, Preview, Admin, Code, Backend, Logs, Security, SEO/GEO and Social. Swipe the row sideways to see them all. While MonstarX works and you are on another view, Chat shows a pulsing dot.
  • The view itself, filling the rest of the screen.

A project opens on Chat when something is under way there — a build running, or questions waiting — and on Preview otherwise. When a build finishes, See it in the preview takes you there.

Tap ••• for everything that sits in the top bar on a computer. It slides up from the bottom; swipe it down or tap outside it to close it.

Each opens the very same panel as on a computer, so you can do everything from your phone.

Your phone is the phone-size screen, so there is no device-width switch. To leave room for the page, the toolbar keeps only the status dot and the address bar. Everything else is in the menu button (☰) at its right: Edit, Clip, Comments, Reload, Restart the dev server, Copy the preview link and Open in a new tab. In Edit mode, scroll the page with two fingers — one finger draws. While the app is still being built, the preview’s card offers Follow it in the chat.

  • Your half-written message is kept when you switch views, turn a tablet sideways, or reload.
  • Menus become sheets that rise from the bottom, with big rows for fingers.
  • Buttons that appear on hover on a computer — moving or removing a queued request, building or reopening a feature — are always shown on a touch screen.
  • Text boxes use a larger font, so your phone does not zoom in when you tap them.
Is there a MonstarX app in the App Store or Google Play?

Not yet. MonstarX runs in your phone's browser. On an iPhone, add it to your Home Screen from Safari and it opens full screen like an app.

Why don't I get notifications on my iPhone?

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work once MonstarX is on your Home Screen and opened from there (iOS 16.4 or later). Add it from Safari with Share → Add to Home Screen, open it from the icon, then turn notifications on in Settings → Notifications.

Does the build stop if my phone locks?

No. Builds run on MonstarX's servers. Locking the phone, closing the tab or losing signal does not stop them.

Can I use a tablet?

Yes. Held upright, a tablet shows the one-view-at-a-time layout; turned sideways, a large tablet shows the computer layout, with the chat and preview side by side. Your draft message is kept when you turn it.

Can I publish from my phone?

Yes. Publish is in the project's header on a phone, and does everything it does on a computer.
