Connect Mapbox to your MonstarX app
In shortYour app's maps work for free without Mapbox. Paste a Mapbox public token (pk.…) into Backend → Cloud and your street maps switch to Mapbox's styles by themselves, satellite included. Ask MonstarX for address search or directions and it uses the same token.

Mapbox is a mapping company known for beautiful map styles and satellite imagery. Every MonstarX app can already show a street map for free (see Maps in your app); connecting Mapbox upgrades those maps and adds address lookups and routes.
What can you build with it?
Section titled “What can you build with it?”- Satellite views, for properties, farms, venues or outdoor trails.
- Mapbox’s map styles — streets, light, dark, outdoors — on every map in your app.
- Addresses on the map: type an address and see it as a pin (geocoding), or click the map to get the nearest address.
- Directions and routes with distance and travel time.
What changes when I connect it?
Section titled “What changes when I connect it?”Your app’s street maps switch to Mapbox’s styles by themselves as soon as the token is in — no rebuild needed. A map MonstarX built with a satellite style shows real satellite imagery from then on. Address search and directions still need asking for, because they are new features.

Security and privacy
Section titled “Security and privacy”- The token is a public token: it is made to be used in the browser, so it is not hidden. It cannot change your Mapbox account.
- It is stored with this app only, and your app sends it only to Mapbox.
- Only the project’s owner can connect, update or disconnect Mapbox. After Disconnect, maps go back to MonstarX’s free map; address search and directions stop working.
- To replace the token, create a new one, click Update keys on the Mapbox row, paste it and click Save keys. Publish again, then delete the old token.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Use a public token (
pk.). Secret tokens (sk.) are for managing your Mapbox account and do not belong in an app. - Every map load and lookup counts toward your Mapbox usage, including in your preview.
- For places search, business details and reviews, Google Maps has richer data.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Do I need Mapbox to show a map?
No. Every MonstarX app has a free street map and world map with no key. Mapbox adds its styles, satellite, address lookups and directions.
Do I have to rebuild my maps after connecting?
No. Street maps switch to Mapbox's styles by themselves as soon as the token is saved.
Why did my maps stop loading after I restricted the token?
A URL-restricted token only works from the addresses you listed. Add your app's address, or use an unrestricted token while you build.
Is the token safe in the browser?
Yes. Public tokens are designed for web pages; they can load maps and look up addresses, not change your account.
