Clone a public website into a new app

In shortOn Projects, open Import → Website and enter a public address. MonstarX finds the site's pages from its links and sitemap; tick up to 20, confirm you have permission to copy them, and press Clone. MonstarX captures each page on desktop and phone and rebuilds them as a new app.

Moving an existing site to MonstarX, or starting from a site you already like the shape of? Website import finds the pages of a public site and rebuilds the ones you choose as a new MonstarX project. From there it is an ordinary app: keep changing it by chatting, add a database and sign-in, and publish it.

  1. On Projects, open Import and choose Website. The window is called Clone a public website.

  2. Enter the Public website address (for example example.com) and press Find pages. MonstarX follows the site’s public links and its sitemap.

  3. Tick the pages to include — up to 20. Select first 20 and Clear help with long lists.

  4. Read A quick note before you clone: MonstarX uses the public pages and the pictures and styles it can reach as references, sign-in pages cannot be captured, and interactive parts may need finishing touches. Cloning confirms you have permission to use the website and its content.

  5. Press Clone 1 page (the count follows your selection). MonstarX creates the project and shows its progress — Reading selected pages, Copying images and styles, Capturing desktop and mobile views, then Starting the build. You can leave the project open or come back later; the import keeps running.

For each page you choose, MonstarX captures how it looks on a computer and on a phone, and reads its public HTML, CSS, fonts and the pictures it can reach. The builder uses those as references for a close rebuild in MonstarX’s own stack — so the result is a real app you can change, not a frozen copy.

Things that may still need work afterwards: states that only appear when you interact (open menus, logged-in views), forms and anything the original does on its own server. An exact copy is not guaranteed.

  • Private pages — anything behind a password or a sign-in cannot be read.
  • Sites without HTTPS — the address must be public and use HTTPS.
  • Pages nobody links to — if the site has no public sitemap, pages without links may be missing; start from a deeper address to find more.
  • Pages the site asks robots to skip — MonstarX follows the site’s robots.txt (its instructions for automatic visitors) and leaves those pages out.

MonstarX warns you about these as it looks — for example No public sitemap was found, so pages without links may be missing. or This site appears to render most content in JavaScript.

How many pages can I clone?

Up to 20 per project. MonstarX lists up to 200 pages it finds; start from a deeper address to reach others.

Which model rebuilds the pages?

The one chosen in the prompt box on Projects. See Choose a model.

Does the clone keep the original's forms and logins working?

No — those run on the original site's server. Ask MonstarX to rebuild them after the clone; it can add a database, accounts and email. See MonstarX Cloud.

Is the original website changed?

No. MonstarX only reads its public pages.
