Use HeyGen with MonstarX

In shortPaste a HeyGen API key into the HeyGen row in Backend → Cloud. MonstarX's builder can then browse your avatars, voices and videos in any mode, and make a talking-avatar video from your script in Build mode when you ask — which uses your HeyGen credits.

Browse avatars and voices, and make avatar videos.

HeyGen makes videos of a realistic presenter — an avatar — speaking a script in a chosen voice. Connect your HeyGen account with an API key (a password-like code that lets software use your account) and MonstarX’s builder — the AI you chat with — can look through your avatars, voices and videos, and make a new avatar video for your app, such as a welcome message for the homepage.

This is a business tool: MonstarX uses HeyGen for you while it works. The app you build never gets your key.

What MonstarX can doWhen
Check your account, including its billing type and balanceAny mode
Browse avatar looks and voices, up to 50 looks or 100 voices at a timeAny mode
List your videos and check one video’s status and detailsAny mode
Make an avatar video: one avatar look, one voice and a script of up to 10,000 characters, in 1080p, with an optional titleOnly in Build mode, and only when you explicitly ask for a video

What it never does: edit or delete your videos, avatars or voices, create new avatars, or change your HeyGen account.

  • A HeyGen account with API access and enough credits or balance for the videos you want. See HeyGen’s API usage page.
  • You own the MonstarX project. Only the owner can connect or disconnect a tool.
  1. Sign in to HeyGen and open the API page for developers.

  2. Create an API key and copy it. HeyGen shows it only once.

  3. If you limit the key with permission scopes, give it at least account:read (MonstarX checks this when you connect), plus avatars:read, voices:read and videos:read. Add videos:write only if MonstarX should make videos. A full-access key also works.

HeyGen’s own guide: API key.

  1. Open your project and click Backend in the top bar, then Cloud.

  2. Scroll to Connectors, find HeyGen and click Connect.

  3. Paste the key into the API key field and click Connect.

  4. MonstarX checks the key by reading your account. When it works, the row says Connected. If HeyGen refuses the key, you see the error and nothing is saved.

You typeWhat happens
“Show me the female avatar looks and the warm English voices in my HeyGen account.”MonstarX lists matching avatar looks and voices with their IDs.
“Make a 30-second HeyGen welcome video with that avatar and voice, reading this script: …”In Build mode, it asks HeyGen to make the video. HeyGen takes a while to render it.
“Is the welcome video ready yet?”It checks the video’s status in HeyGen and tells you, with the finished video’s details once it is done.
  • Stays with MonstarX. The key is stored encrypted on MonstarX’s servers. It is never written into your app’s code or given to your app.
  • One project. The key works only in the project where you connected it.
  • Read as information. MonstarX treats what it reads from HeyGen as information to work with, never as instructions.
  • Disconnect any time. Click Disconnect beside HeyGen in BackendCloud and confirm Disconnect HeyGen from this project?. MonstarX forgets the key. Delete the key in HeyGen to stop it working everywhere.
  • Videos are made in 1080p with HeyGen’s automatic aspect ratio. Rendering happens at HeyGen and can take several minutes.
  • MonstarX uses avatar looks you already have in HeyGen. Create new avatars in HeyGen itself.
  • Videos stay in your HeyGen account, alongside the ones you make there.
Can MonstarX make videos by itself?

No. It makes a video only in Build mode and only when you explicitly ask for one. In Plan and Chat mode it can browse but not create.

Does browsing avatars use credits?

No. Listing avatars, voices and videos, and checking a video's status, do not make anything. Only making a video uses your HeyGen credits.

Can my app make HeyGen videos for its users?

Not with this connection: the key is for MonstarX's builder only. For a feature where your app itself calls HeyGen, add a HeyGen key under Backend → Secrets and ask MonstarX to build it. See Store API keys safely.
