The Admin panel for your app
In shortEvery app you build gets an Admin tab, with nothing to set up. It lists the people who signed up (ban them, sign them out, send a password reset, make them an app admin or delete them) and your app's data as simple forms: change a price, add a product, upload a picture. Saves go live at once, every change is logged with Undo, and it is free apart from two optional AI helpers.
An admin panel is the back office of an app: the place where you, the owner, look after the people who use it and the information it keeps. Most people never think to build one. MonstarX gives every app one by default, in the Admin tab.
You do not need to ask for it, and it works without the AI: no prompt, no build, no credits (only two optional AI helpers use credits). What you save in Admin is live in your app straight away.
Where do I find Admin?
Section titled “Where do I find Admin?”Open your project and click Admin in the top bar.
The sidebar on the left has everything in Admin:
| In the sidebar | What it is |
|---|---|
| Overview | A card for your users and for each kind of data your app keeps, with how many records it has. |
| Studio | Build your own saved views, forms and dashboards. See Studio. |
| My pages | The pages you made in Studio (shown once you have one). |
| Data | Your app’s tables, by their business names: Walkers, Bookings, Menu items… |
| Users | Everyone who made an account in your app. |
| APIs | Turn your data into REST endpoints for other software. See Your app’s REST API. |
| Activity | Everything changed in Admin, newest first, with Undo. |
Only the project’s owner sees the Admin tab. People you share the project with never do.
Do I have to set Admin up?
Section titled “Do I have to set Admin up?”No. MonstarX reads how your app stores its data and describes it for you. That is why the cards say Described automatically. It works out:
- Names people understand. A table called
menu_itemsshows as Menu items, and one record as a Menu item. - What each field holds: money (with the currency), yes/no, dates and times, a choice from a list, an email, a link, a picture, long text, or a link to another record, which shows the other record’s name instead of a code.
- What names a record, so lists and links show “Mia Thompson”, not an ID.
- What to keep out of sight. Tables that only connect two others are hidden (with the reason). Fields whose names look like secrets, such as passwords, tokens and API keys, are never shown, whatever anyone chooses.
When a later build adds a new kind of data, the chat says so with a small card, New in Admin: Bookings, and an Open Admin button. There is nothing to set up.
How do I edit my app’s data?
Section titled “How do I edit my app’s data?”Click a table in the sidebar to see its records. You can search, filter (for example Available: all), sort by a column, and move through pages of 50 records. Very large tables count up to 10,000 and then show 10,000+.
-
Click a record to open it as a form. Required fields have a star.
-
Change what you need. Each field has the right control: a switch for yes/no, a date picker, a list of choices, a price box with its currency, or a search box for linked records.
-
Click Save. You see Saved — it’s live, with an Undo button in case you change your mind.
To add a record, click New walker (the button is named after your data: New menu item, New booking…) in the top-right of the table. To remove one, open it and click Delete. You type its name (or delete) to confirm, and Undo is offered right after, and in Activity.
Good to know:
- Two people, one record. If the record changed since you opened it (in the app or in another tab), Admin refuses to save over it and tells you, so nothing is lost.
- Errors show where they happen. A missing required value or a wrong date is marked on the field itself.
- Order. When a table has its own order (like a menu), arrows let you move records up and down, as long as the whole list fits on one page and is not searched or filtered.
- Linked records. A field that points at another record opens a search box. It shows the first 25 matches; type more of the name to narrow it down. The arrow beside a linked name opens that record.
How do I add or change a picture?
Section titled “How do I add or change a picture?”Picture fields show a preview and three ways to fill them:
- Upload a picture: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF, up to 20 MB.
- Paste an address of a picture that is already online.
- Generate image: describe the picture, then click Create image, and AI draws it for you.
Why does a table say View only?
Section titled “Why does a table say View only?”Some tables are written by your app as part of something people do: orders, bookings, payments, subscriptions, messages, reviews, votes and the like. When your app saves an order, it might also send an email or update stock. Admin only changes the data, so it could skip those extra steps.
So these tables start as View only. You can read them, search them and filter them, but not change them.
If you do need to change one, click Switch editing on. MonstarX asks first:
How do I change how a table looks in Admin?
Section titled “How do I change how a table looks in Admin?”Click Customise at the top of any table. This changes how the table shows in Admin only. Your app and its data are not touched.
You can:
- Rename the table, say what one record is called (One of them is a…) and pick an icon.
- Choose What names a record.
- Choose What the list shows: up to 8 columns, in the order you like.
- For each field: change its Label, its Kind (for money: the Currency, and Stored in cents when 1250 means 12.50), the Choices for a list, and switch on Hidden or Read-only.
- Decide What can be done here: Add, Edit and Delete.
- Hide this collection to take it out of the sidebar. Overview lists hidden tables with a Show button.
- Back to what MonstarX suggests forgets your choices and uses MonstarX’s description again.
How do I manage the people who use my app?
Section titled “How do I manage the people who use my app?”Click Users. You see everyone who made an account in your app, with Status, Joined and Last active. Search by name or email, or show only Banned, App admins or Unverified people.
Click a person to see their details and What you can do:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Send password reset | Emails them a link to choose a new password, the same one your app’s own Forgot password page sends. The link works for an hour. |
| Sign out everywhere | Signs them out on every device. They can sign in again with their password. |
| Make app admin | Lets them into your app’s own admin pages, if your app has any. It gives them nothing in MonstarX. Remove app admin takes it back. |
| Mark email as verified | For someone who has not confirmed their address, when you know it is theirs. |
| Ban… | Signs them out at once and keeps them out for 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or For good, with an optional reason. Unban lets them back in early. |
| Delete… | Removes their account and sign-ins for good. |
What if Send password reset does not work?
Section titled “What if Send password reset does not work?”MonstarX checks before it sends. It tells you, in plain words, when the email would fail or lead nowhere: for example, when your app’s email is switched off or has reached its limit for the hour or day, when the address is a test address, or when your app has no page to choose a new password on.
In that last case, click Ask MonstarX to add it. It sends a request in the chat to add Forgot password to your app, which builds like any request and uses credits. Once that is built, send the reset again. When the email goes out, Admin says who it was sent to and from which address. If it is not in their inbox, ask them to look in spam. See Emails your app sends.
What happens to someone’s records when I delete them?
Section titled “What happens to someone’s records when I delete them?”Under What they own, Admin lists every table whose records belong to a person, and lets you choose for each one: Keep, Anonymise (keep the record, but it no longer points at anyone) or Delete. The choice is kept per table, so it is the same for everyone you delete. Sometimes your app’s own rules decide, and Admin says so.
When you click Delete…, Admin shows exactly what will happen, table by table, and you type the person’s email to confirm. The whole delete happens at once or not at all.
What is Admin Studio?
Section titled “What is Admin Studio?”Studio lets you build the admin pages you use most: a list of today’s bookings, a simple form for the fields your team edits, or a dashboard with live numbers.
There are two ways to make a page:
- Build your admin with AI. Describe what you need, or pick an example (Manage orders, Review content, Today at a glance), and click Build with AI. It makes up to three pages per prompt from your app’s existing data, and each one appears in the sidebar as soon as it is ready. Stop keeps the pages already made. This uses credits.
- Build manually from a template, for free:
- Saved view: choose columns, starting filters and sorting for a focused list of records.
- Record form: choose the fields for adding and editing, and which actions are allowed.
- Dashboard: arrange blocks: a Number (count, sum or average), a Breakdown, Recent records and a Note for your team.
Your pages appear under My pages in the sidebar. A project can have up to 24 of them.
Can I undo a change?
Section titled “Can I undo a change?”Yes. Activity lists everything changed in Admin, newest first, with who made the change and when. Filter it by Data, Users or Settings.
A change or a delete of one record has an Undo button that puts it back as it was. Undone entries are marked Undone. Activity is kept for a year.
Where is my data if my app uses another database?
Section titled “Where is my data if my app uses another database?”Admin works with wherever your app keeps its data:
- MonstarX’s database (the default), your Supabase project or your Railway Postgres database: everything works as described here.
- Firebase: your records live in Firestore and are managed from Backend → Database; the people who signed up are still under Users. Studio is not available. See Firebase.
- Your own Cloudflare account: your live app has its own database there. Admin shows the preview’s practice data and says so. See Your own Cloudflare account.
- Imported apps: their data and accounts live where their own code keeps them, so Admin has nothing to open. See Import an app.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Does the Admin tab use credits?
No. Viewing and editing your data, managing users and undoing changes are free. Only two optional AI helpers use credits: Generate image on a picture field and Build with AI in Studio.
Do I need to publish my app first?
No. Admin works on your app's data whether it is published or not, and even for an app built months ago. What you save is live in your app straight away.
Can people I share my project with use Admin?
No. Only the owner sees the Admin tab. To let someone into your app's own admin pages, open them in Users and click Make app admin.
Why can't I edit my Orders or Bookings table?
Tables your app writes as part of something people do start as View only, because the app may do more than save (send an email, update stock). Click Switch editing on if you need to change them.
Why is a table missing from the sidebar?
Tables that only link two others are hidden automatically, and you may have hidden one with Customise. Overview lists every hidden table with a Show button.
Will a later build undo my Customise choices?
No. Your choices are kept. If the builder renames a field, Admin keeps what you decided about it when the rename is clear.
