Edit mode — point at the page and say what to change
In shortClick Edit in the preview toolbar, then click any element or drag a box around an area of your running app and type what should change. Mark up to 20 places — on any page — and click Send changes. MonstarX gets each note with exactly what you pointed at and builds all the changes in one request.
“Make the second button on the pricing page smaller” works, but pointing at it is quicker. Edit mode lets you do that: click or draw on your running app, write what should change next to each spot, and send them all together. MonstarX knows exactly which element you meant, and which file it most likely lives in.
How do I use Edit mode?
Section titled “How do I use Edit mode?”-
Open the Preview tab and wait until your app is showing. (The Edit button is greyed out while a status card covers the preview.)
-
Click Edit in the preview toolbar (the pencil). The Edit mode panel opens in the corner of the preview.
-
Point at what should change:
- Click an element — a heading, a button, a picture, a card. It is highlighted as you hover, so you can see what a click will pick.
- Drag a box around an area when it is more than one element, such as a whole section.
-
Type what should change in the note that appears: Make this heading a little smaller.
-
Mark more places the same way. Each gets a number on the page and in the panel.
-
Click Send 2 changes (the count follows your marks). MonstarX builds them all in one request.
What can I do in the Edit mode panel?
Section titled “What can I do in the Edit mode panel?”- Each change shows what you picked (its tag and text, like
<h1> "A quiet place to breathe…") and your note. - The bin icon removes one change. Clear removes them all.
- Send N changes sends them. While a build is running, the button reads Queue N changes and your changes wait in Up next.
- The × in the corner, or Esc, leaves Edit mode and throws away any marks you have not sent.
Can I scroll and change pages in Edit mode?
Section titled “Can I scroll and change pages in Edit mode?”Yes. Scroll with your mouse wheel, trackpad or keyboard as usual — marks stay attached to their element as the page moves. On a touch screen, scroll with two fingers; one finger draws.
To mark something on another page, pick the page in the preview’s address bar. Marks you made on other pages are hidden while you look at this one, and all of them are sent together.
What does MonstarX receive?
Section titled “What does MonstarX receive?”Your request appears in the chat as 2 changes marked on the preview, with each numbered change and its note. MonstarX gets, for every mark, the page it was on, the element’s details and the files that most likely hold it — so it can go straight to the right place.
The result is a normal build: you can follow it in the chat, and a version is saved afterwards. In the thread list it reads like your first note, for example Make this heading a little smaller… (+1 more).
Tips for good notes
Section titled “Tips for good notes”- One idea per mark. “Make this smaller” on the heading and “Use a real photo here” on the picture work better than one long note.
- Say the result, not the code. “Make this stand out more” or “Match the green of the Book button” is enough.
- Draw a box for layout changes. “Put these three cards in one row” makes most sense around the whole row.
- Ask for a picture right on it. Click a picture and describe the photo you want — MonstarX can draw it. See Pictures in your app.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- Up to 20 changes per request. Past that, send what you have and carry on.
- Each note can be up to 2,000 characters. A note that is too long turns red and Send waits until it fits.
- Edit mode is for the project’s owner and people with Can edit access. People with Can view & comment access use Comments instead — see Share and comment.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Why is the Edit button greyed out?
The preview has to be live and showing your app. It is disabled while the preview starts, while the status card covers a build in progress, or when nothing is built yet.
It says the preview has not loaded its inspector yet. What do I do?
Reload the preview (↻) and try again. If it says the preview started before the page could scroll in Edit mode, click Restart dev server (⟲) in the preview toolbar.
Can I mark something that only appears after a click, like a menu?
Open it in the preview first, then switch Edit mode on — or use Clip to capture it and describe the change in the chat.
What is the difference between Edit mode and Clip?
Edit mode sends a change request tied to each marked element. Clip puts a picture of part of the page into your message, which you can send in any mode — handy for questions or for showing a problem.
Does Edit mode change my app instantly?
No. Your marks are sent as one Build request and MonstarX builds them like any other request. There are no instant, build-free tweaks — but you can restore a version if you do not like the result.
