Buy a domain for your app

In shortOpen Publish, choose Buy a domain, search for a name and pick one. You pay on Stripe's secure checkout; MonstarX registers the domain through Name.com, points it and its www at your app and turns on HTTPS — usually within minutes, sometimes a few hours. Domains do not renew on their own; MonstarX emails you 45, 30 and 5 days before one expires.

A domain is your app’s own web address, like brewandbean.com, instead of brew-bean.monstarx.app. It is easier to remember, looks more trustworthy and is yours to keep. MonstarX sells domains through Name.com, a well-known domain registrar, and does all the technical setup: no DNS records to type, no certificates to install.

  • Publish your app at least once, so the domain has something to show. See Publish your app. You can buy first, but the domain only shows your app once it is published.
  • Only the project’s owner can buy domains for it.
  1. Open your project and click Publish in the top bar.

  2. Under Domains, click Buy a domain.

  3. The Domains window opens on Buy a domain, with your project’s name already in the search box. Keep it or type a word or an exact domain (for example brewandbean or brewandbean.com), and click Search.

Prices in this picture are examples. The window always shows the real price before you pay.
  4. Each result shows the first year’s price and Renews at …/year. Click Buy next to the one you want.

  5. Read the summary: the price, how long it is registered for, the renewal price, and that MonstarX points @ and www at your app and sets up HTTPS. Tick I’m buying for a business if you need the business name and tax ID on the invoice.

  6. Click Continue to payment. You go to Stripe’s secure checkout, pay, and come back to your project.

  7. The Domains window follows the order: Payment received. Registering … with Name.com…, then … is yours, with a checklist of what was set up.

  • Extensions: the common ones — such as .com, .net, .org, .co and .dev. The Buy a domain tab lists exactly which extensions are on offer and the highest price allowed.
  • Premium names (names a registry sells at a special price) are not offered.
  • A name that cannot be bought says why: taken, not offered, premium, or too expensive.
  • Every domain comes with WHOIS privacy, which keeps your personal details out of the public domain register.
  • Domains are registered for the extension’s minimum term — one year for most.

MonstarX does the setup for you:

  • Your app answers on both addresses — brewandbean.com and www.brewandbean.com.
  • HTTPS is turned on automatically.
  • Going live takes a little while — usually minutes, sometimes a few hours — while the new domain is handed over across the internet.

Open PublishYour domains & DNS to see where it is. Each domain has a status:

StatusWhat it means
Confirming purchaseName.com has not confirmed the purchase yet. MonstarX checks again by itself — do not buy it a second time.
Going liveBought and being set up; MonstarX is waiting for the internet to catch up.
ActiveYour app is live on the domain, with HTTPS.
Needs attentionSetup hit a problem. Click Finish setup to try again.

MonstarX also keeps checking domains that are not live yet, so most problems fix themselves without anyone clicking.

  • In the project: PublishYour domains & DNS opens the Bought domains & DNS tab, with each domain’s status, expiry date and renewal price, and a Payments list of orders that are in progress, refunded or need attention.
  • Across all your apps: Settings → Domains lists every domain you bought or connected.

Most people never need this. If you want email on your domain (an MX record) or need to prove you own it to another service (a TXT record), click DNS settings next to the domain. You can add, edit and delete A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, SRV and TXT records. The records for @ and www are marked Serves this app: they keep your app online, so they cannot be replaced. If the domain ever stops pointing at your app, Restore puts it back.

A domain you bought for a project you later deleted stays yours. It shows under Your domains not used by an app — click Use for this app to point it at the current project.

Domains bought through MonstarX do not renew on their own. MonstarX emails you 45, 30 and 5 days before one expires, and the domain list in the project warns you from 45 days out. Click Renew in the email, next to the domain in PublishYour domains & DNS, or on Settings → Domains, and pay for one more year on Stripe’s checkout.

For what renewing costs, what happens if a domain expires and every domain across your apps in one list, see All your domains in one place.

How long does a new domain take to work?

Usually minutes, sometimes a few hours, while the registry hands the domain over. Your domains & DNS shows Active when it is live.

Do I need to set up DNS or HTTPS?

No. MonstarX points the domain and its www at your app and turns on HTTPS for you.

Does the domain renew automatically?

No. MonstarX emails you 45, 30 and 5 days before it expires, and you renew it with Renew. See All your domains.

What if the registration fails after I pay?

Your payment is refunded in full. Refunds take 5–10 days to show on a statement.

I already own a domain. Do I have to buy another?
What happens to the domain if I delete the project?

It stays registered to you, and you can point it at another app with Use for this app.
