Uploads and file storage in your app
In shortEvery MonstarX app can store files — profile pictures, product photos, PDFs, voice notes. Ask for an upload and MonstarX builds it. Files can be public (anyone with the link can see them) or private (only signed-in people). Each file can be up to 50 MB. See, preview, download and delete them under Backend → Files.
Photos of dishes, a CV attached to a job application, a signed contract, a product image — many apps need to keep files. Every MonstarX app has file storage built in, so your app can take uploads and show them again, with nothing to set up.
How do I let people upload files?
Section titled “How do I let people upload files?”Ask for it and say what the file is for:
Each recipe has a photo the cook uploads. Show it at the top of the recipe page and as a thumbnail in the list.
MonstarX builds the upload button, stores each file and links it to the right record — the photo to its recipe, the CV to its application.
Who can see an uploaded file?
Section titled “Who can see an uploaded file?”Each file is either public or private. MonstarX picks the right one for what you describe, and you can say which you want.
| Kind | Who can open it | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Public | Anyone with its link. It loads fast everywhere. | Product photos, recipe pictures, logos — things every visitor sees. |
| Private | Only people signed in to your app. Anyone else is turned away. | Invoices, contracts, ID documents, anything personal. |
To be sure, say it in your request: “the uploaded contracts are private — only the signed-in customer who uploaded them can download them”.
How big can files be?
Section titled “How big can files be?”Each file can be up to 50 MB. That covers photos, PDFs, spreadsheets, short audio and short video clips. Pictures your app makes with AI image generation are stored the same way.
Where do I see my app’s files?
Section titled “Where do I see my app’s files?”Open BackendFiles. The top line counts your stored files and their total size. Below, each file shows its name and where it is stored, its Type, its Size and when it was Uploaded. Pictures show a small thumbnail.
- Click a file’s name to preview it. Pictures, PDFs, text, audio and video open right there.
- Click the download arrow to save it to your computer.
- Click the bin to delete it. MonstarX asks you to confirm first; a deleted file cannot be brought back.
- The list shows the first 200 files.
Why are some files not listed?
Section titled “Why are some files not listed?”The files MonstarX keeps for itself — earlier copies of your project from Versions and the files you attach in the chat — are hidden here, and a note says so. Your project’s own code is in the Code tab. The size in the top line still includes those copies (“including version history”).
What if I switch Storage off?
Section titled “What if I switch Storage off?”Under BackendCloud you can switch Storage off to use your own file storage, for example Firebase storage or R2 on your own Cloudflare account. Uploads through MonstarX stop working straight away, so do this only once your app uses the other storage.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Are uploaded files kept when I publish or restore a version?
Yes. Files live apart from your code. Publishing, new builds and restoring a version leave them as they are.
Can I upload files for my app myself, like a logo?
Attach the picture in the chat and say where it goes ("use this as the logo"). MonstarX puts it in the app for you.
Can people upload videos?
Yes, as long as each file is 50 MB or smaller. For longer videos, use a video hosting service and paste links instead.
Where are the files kept?
In MonstarX's cloud file storage, in a space of their own for each app. Other apps cannot read them.
I deleted a file by mistake. Can I get it back?
No. Deleting a file in Backend → Files removes it for good, and any page that showed it will show a missing picture.
