Get notified when a build is done

In shortMonstarX keeps building after you close the tab or lock your phone. Turn on notifications in Settings → Notifications (or tap Notify me above the prompt box) and each device tells you when a build is done, when Plan mode has questions, when a build stops, and when someone comments on a shared preview. On iPhone and iPad, add MonstarX to your Home Screen first.

A build can take a few minutes. You do not have to watch it: requests keep running on MonstarX after you close the tab or lock your phone. Notifications tell you how they ended, on your phone or computer, so you can get on with your day.

You are told even if a MonstarX tab is still open somewhere — MonstarX cannot know which screen you are looking at. You are not told about a request you stopped yourself.

Turn them on once on each phone or computer you want them on.

  1. Open SettingsNotifications.

  2. Under This device, click Turn on.

  3. Your browser asks whether MonstarX may show notifications. Choose Allow.

  4. The page says On: MonstarX tells you here when a request ends. Click Send a test under Your devices to check. The page waits for it to reach your browser and says how long that took — usually about a second.

While MonstarX is working on a request, a card above the prompt box says You can close this — MonstarX keeps building and asks Want a notification on this device when it is done? Tap Notify me to turn notifications on for that device right there, or Not now.

Your devices lists every browser and phone that gets notifications, with when it was added and last notified. The one you are using says · this device.

  • Send a test — sends a test notification to all of them: Notifications are on.
  • Remove — stops notifications to that device.
  • Turn off (under This device) — stops them on the device you are using.

Signing out also stops notifications on that browser, so a shared or borrowed device does not keep showing your projects.

  • Notifications go to the project’s owner, even when someone you shared the project with to edit sends the request. On a project someone else owns, you are not notified.
  • A newer notification about a project replaces the older one on your device, so your lock screen does not fill up.
  • A notification that has not arrived within 12 hours is dropped — by then it is old news.
  • Notifications about comments are also sent by email; build notifications are not.
  • If notifications are blocked in your browser’s settings, the page says so. Allow notifications for monstarx.com in the browser’s site settings, then click Turn on again.

The test reached my browser, but nothing appeared

Section titled “The test reached my browser, but nothing appeared”

When Send a test says It reached this browser, MonstarX and your browser did their part: the browser has the notification and asked your computer or phone to show it. If nothing appeared, the system is hiding your browser’s notifications — a setting no website can see or change. The page shows the steps for your system under Nothing appeared on screen?:

Open System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome (or your browser’s name), turn on Allow notifications, and choose Banners or Alerts. Check that Focus (Do Not Disturb) is off in Control Centre.

If the test says it has not reached this browser, the push never arrived: some company networks and VPNs block browsers’ push services. Otherwise click Turn off and Turn on again on that device.

Can I close the tab while MonstarX builds?

Yes. Builds run on MonstarX, not in your browser. Close the tab or lock your phone; with notifications on, you are told when it is done. When you open the project again, the result is there.

Why is there no Turn on button on my iPhone?

Safari on iPhone only allows notifications for sites on your Home Screen. Tap Share → Add to Home Screen, open MonstarX from the new icon, and turn notifications on there.

The test notification did not arrive. What now?

Read what the page says after Send a test. *It reached this browser* means your computer or phone is hiding the browser's notifications: allow them for your browser in the system settings (on a Mac, System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome) and turn off Focus or Do Not Disturb. *It has not reached this browser* means the push never arrived: try another network, or turn notifications off and on again on that device.

It says notifications are blocked.

You (or your browser) said no earlier. Open your browser's site settings for monstarx.com, allow notifications, and click Turn on again.

Can I choose which notifications I get?

Not yet. Every opted-in device gets all five kinds. You can remove a device or turn notifications off on it at any time.
