Describe your app and build it
In shortOn Projects, describe your app in a few plain sentences — who it is for and what people do in it — and press Build it (or Enter). MonstarX creates the project, opens its workspace and starts building. Signed out, you can describe it on the home page first; your words wait for you after you sign up.
The simplest way to start is to say what you want. You write a few sentences in plain words, press Build it, and MonstarX builds the whole app: its pages, its database (where it keeps information such as bookings or orders), sign-in, emails and more. No setup and no code.
Where do I describe my app?
Section titled “Where do I describe my app?”At the top of Projects — the page MonstarX opens on when you are signed in. It greets you with What are we building next? and a large box that says Describe the app you want to build, or attach an RFP or spec…
The New project button in the top bar always brings you back to this box. There is nothing else to fill in first: the project is created the moment you send your description.
How do I build my first app?
Section titled “How do I build my first app?”-
Open Projects and click in the box.
-
Describe the app. Say what it is, who uses it and the main things they do in it. For example: A booking site for my yoga studio: a weekly class timetable, a spot limit for each class, member sign-in and a confirmation email when someone books.
-
Press Build it, or press Enter. (Shift + Enter starts a new line instead.)
-
MonstarX creates the project, opens its workspace and starts building. The chat shows each step in plain words, and the preview shows your app as it takes shape.
A first build usually takes a few minutes. You do not have to watch: close the tab and MonstarX keeps working. See Follow a build.
What should I write?
Section titled “What should I write?”Write it the way you would explain it to a person who is going to build it for you. The more of these you cover, the closer the first version lands:
- What it is — “a booking site”, “a client portal”, “an internal tool for our support team”.
- Who uses it — customers, staff, members, only you. Say if there are different kinds of people with different rights, such as customers and admins.
- The main things they do — book a class, track an order, upload a photo, approve a request.
- What it must remember — bookings, customers, invoices, notes.
- Anything specific — your business name, your prices, your colours, a service you need (payments, text messages, maps).
- The feel — “calm and premium”, “bold and playful”, or name a site you like.
You do not need to name technologies, pick a database or plan the pages. MonstarX decides those, and lists what it will build as a checklist before it starts. See The feature plan.
More ideas for strong requests are in Prompting tips.
What are the Try suggestions under the box?
Section titled “What are the Try suggestions under the box?”Under the box, Try offers five starting points: Client portal, Booking site, Internal tool, AI assistant and Marketplace app. Clicking one fills the box with a ready-made request — for example Booking site writes A booking site for my studio: a weekly class timetable, spot limits and confirmation emails. Nothing is sent until you press Build it, so change the words to fit your business first.
What are the other buttons in the box?
Section titled “What are the other buttons in the box?”| Button | What it does | Learn more |
|---|---|---|
| Paperclip | Attach pictures, documents or spreadsheets (or paste or drop them). | Attach files |
| Import | Bring in existing work: GitHub, Lovable, A .zip, Figma, Website, Spreadsheet or Your agent. | Import an app |
| Two shortcuts beside Import | Two of the Import choices, picked afresh on each visit (for example Figma and Spreadsheet). | — |
| Plan first | MonstarX asks a few questions before it builds. The button becomes Plan it. | Plan first |
| Design first | You pick a look from a few drawn first screens before the build. | Design first |
| Auto (the model) | Choose which AI model builds the app, or leave it on Auto. | Choose a model |
Can I describe my app before I have an account?
Section titled “Can I describe my app before I have an account?”Yes. The home page at monstarx.com has its own box — What do you want to launch? — with the paperclip, Plan first and Build it.
-
Describe your app on the home page, and attach files if you have them.
-
Press Build it. You are asked to create a free account (no credit card).
-
After you sign up, MonstarX opens Projects with your description already in the box — and your files too — ready to send.
-
Check it and press Build it to start the build.
Your Plan first choice comes along as well. Files you attach before signing up are kept in that browser for a day, so finish signing up in the same browser.
How long can my description be?
Section titled “How long can my description be?”Up to 100,000 characters — long enough for a full product specification. As you get close to the limit, a count appears beside Build it; past it, the count turns red and Build it waits until you shorten the text. For long specifications it is often easier to attach the document instead. See Build from documents.
What happens right after I press Build it?
Section titled “What happens right after I press Build it?”- A new project appears in Your projects and its workspace opens.
- MonstarX writes a short checklist of features, then builds them one by one.
- The project gets a name and a description from what you wrote. You can rename it any time.
- The preview starts showing the app as soon as there is something to show.
If your first description is very open — build me an app — MonstarX asks a few quick questions first, on the same card as Plan first, and builds as soon as you answer.
If you pasted only a GitHub address, the box offers Import owner/repo instead, because that is code to bring in rather than an idea to build. See Import an app.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Do I have to write in English?
No. Describe your app in your own language; MonstarX replies in it and builds the app in it.
Can I change the app after the first build?
Does MonstarX build a database and sign-in by itself?
Yes, when the app needs them. Say what people do and what the app should remember, and MonstarX adds the database, accounts and email to match. See MonstarX Cloud.
Why is Build it greyed out?
The box is empty, a file is still uploading or failed to upload, the description is over the length limit, or the chosen model cannot see an attached picture. The message under the box says which.
Can I stop a build I started by mistake?
Yes. Press Stop beside the chat box in the workspace. What was built so far is kept.
