Attach pictures and documents to a request

In shortClick the paperclip (or paste or drop files) in the prompt box on Projects or in a project's chat. Pictures show MonstarX what you mean; documents such as an RFP or a spec are read and built from. Up to 10 files per request — pictures up to 15 MB, documents up to 50 MB.

A picture is often quicker than a paragraph. Attach a mockup, a sketch or a screenshot of a site you like, and MonstarX builds towards it. Attach a document — a brief, a specification, a request for proposals — and MonstarX reads it and builds what it describes.

  1. In the prompt box on Projects (or the chat box in a project), click the paperclip. You can also paste files, or drag them onto the box.

  2. Choose one or more files. Each appears as a chip above your text, with its size — pictures show a small preview.

  3. Add a few words about how to use them (for example Match the look of the mockup), then press Build it.

On Projects, files go up to MonstarX when you send the request; in a project’s chat they start uploading as soon as you add them. A large file shows its progress on its chip. To remove a file, click the × on its chip.

KindFile typesLargest file
PicturesPNG, JPG, WebP, GIF15 MB
DocumentsPDF, Word (.docx and older .doc), OpenDocument (.odt, .odp), RTF, PowerPoint (.pptx), text (.txt, .md), web pages (.html), JSON, XML, YAML50 MB
SpreadsheetsExcel (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xls), OpenDocument (.ods), CSV, TSV50 MB
A bundleA .zip of documents50 MB

You can attach up to 10 files to one request. Large photos are made smaller in your browser before they go up (1,600 pixels on the long side), which keeps mockups sharp and uploads quick.

A Figma file (.fig) is not attached like the others — dropping one opens the Figma import instead. See Build from Figma.

What does MonstarX do with each kind of file?

Section titled “What does MonstarX do with each kind of file?”
  • Pictures are shown to the AI model with your request, so it can match a layout, copy a colour or fix what a screenshot shows.
  • Documents are read into text and turned into a requirements brief that every later request remembers. You do not even need to type anything: a request made of documents alone means Build what these documents describe. See Build from documents.
  • Spreadsheets get an offer of their own on Projects: Turn file into an app, with all its rows. See Build from a spreadsheet.
  • Logs and data files (.log, .json, .xml, .yaml) are sent as they are, for MonstarX to look at — they are not treated as requirements.

When documents are attached, the box’s hint changes to Anything to add? MonstarX reads your documents and builds what they describe… — the words are optional.

A few models read text only. If the chosen model cannot see pictures, the picture chip turns amber, a note says so — for example GLM 5.3 can’t see images — pick another model to send this image, or remove it. — and Build it waits. Pick another model (or Auto), or remove the picture. Such models carry a No images tag in the model list.

Can I attach files later, in a project’s chat?

Section titled “Can I attach files later, in a project’s chat?”

Yes. The chat box in every project has the same paperclip, and paste and drop work there too. Use it to send a screenshot of a bug, a new mockup for a page, or an addendum to your RFP — an added document is read and merged into the requirements. To point at something on your app’s own page, Clip is even quicker: it puts a picture of exactly that part into your message.

The chip is marked, with a retry button when trying again can help (a dropped connection, for example). The request waits until every failed file is retried or removed, so an important document never goes missing from the request that needed it. A file that is too large or of the wrong type says so on its chip — Larger than 15 MB, Larger than 50 MB — split it or Unsupported file type.

Can I attach a PDF that is a scan?

Yes. MonstarX recognises a scanned PDF and reads its pages with text recognition. A scan larger than 12 MB is too big to read that way — split it into smaller PDFs and attach those.

Is there a limit on pages?

MonstarX reads the first 1,500 pages of a PDF; pages after that are skipped. Anything shorter is read in full, in parts if it is long.

Can I attach a password-protected file?

No — MonstarX cannot open it and says so. Remove the password and attach it again.

Where are my attached files kept?

With the request they came with, in the project's chat, so you (and MonstarX) can look at them again later. Documents also stay listed in the project's requirements.

Can I attach files on the home page before signing up?

Yes. They wait in your browser while you create your account and appear in the prompt box on Projects afterwards.
